TAMPA, Fla.-- Stanford's Oliver Toole (ninth), Molly McKinney (seventh) and Sally Mace (ninth) are all in the middle of the pack in their respective regattas after the first of three days of sailing at the national singlehanded championships at the University of South Florida.
Among 18 teams, McKinney has 41 points after day one, placing either third or fourth in the first four races before faltering to 16th in the final race of the day. She is nine points out of fourth place. Mace has 57 points, placing in the top-10 three times.
In the men's race, Toole is ninth with 72 points, a point out of eighth after the first six races. He finished in the top-10 three times.
The trio reached the national championship, three of 36 sailors, after winning the Pacific Coast Conference's Singlehanded Championships.
