Stanford Climbs To A Tie For 6th At The Pac-10-SEC Challenge

Stanford, Calif. - No. 36 Stanford played some outstanding golf on Saturday as it climbed up the leaderboard to a tie for sixth at the Pac-10-SEC Challenge. The Cardinal fired a round of 5-over-par 293 to move to 14-over-par for the tournament.

No. 5 UCLA had the best round of the day and has taken a commanding lead in the tournament at 2-under-par for the two rounds. No. 26 Auburn and No. 3 Alabama sit in a tie for second at 7-over-par, nine strokes off the lead. No. 13 Arizona is fourth at 10-over-par, while No. 4 California is fifth at 13-over-par.

The Cardinal are tied for sixth with No. 30 Washington at 14-over for the tournament.

Kristina Wong led Stanford on Saturday with a brilliant 68. The Cardinal sophomore made six birdies and three bogies to move to even-par for the tournament. Wong is currently tied for 12th, six shots off the lead.

Marina Alex of Vanderbilt took over the individual lead with a round of 1-under-par 70 to move to six-under-par for the tournament. Cydney Clanton of Auburn is one stroke back, while Friday's leader Joanne Lee of Cal is now two back.

Also playing well for Stanford on Saturday was Lila Barton. She carded a round of even-par 71 to remain at 5-over-par for the tournament. She is currently tied for 27th, moving up 32 places on the day.

Sydney Burlison is now tied for 35th after a round of 5-over-par 76. She is now 6-over for the tournament.

The other scoring golfer on Saturday was Sally Watson with a 3-over-par 74. Watson climbed to a tie for 50th on the individual leaderboard.

Rebecca Durham fell to tied for 60th after a round of 81. Durham had shot even par in the first round, but struggled on Saturday.

The Cardinal will be back on the course on Sunday for the final round of the Pac-10-SEC Challenge. Stanford will have a chance to finish among the leaders in a tournament with many of the top teams in the nation, including seven of the top 10.
