Stanford, Calif. - On a soggy day at the Stanford Golf Course, the Cardinal held strong, holding its position to finish tied for sixth at the Pac-10-SEC Challenge. Stanford finished with a round of 16-over-par 300 for a tournament total of 30-over-par 882.
No. 5 UCLA won the tournament with Sunday's low round, finishing the weekend at 4-over-par. No. 3 Alabama was second at 15-over-par, while No. 2 USC tied UCLA for the low round of the day to finish third at 23-over-par.
No. 13 Arizona was fourth, while No. 26 Auburn was fifth. Stanford tied with No. 7 Georgia for sixth in one of the most loaded fields of the season. The Cardinal finished ahead of two top-5 teams and nine teams ranked in the top-35.
The Cardinal was led by Kristina Wong for the second-straight day. The Stanford sophomore fired a round of 1-over-par 72 to finish at 1-over for the tournament. Wong tied for seventh for her best finish of the season and just off the best of her career, a fifth-place finish at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational last season.
Sophia Popov of USC won the individual title at 6-under-par for the weekend. Popov shot a 67 on Sunday, the low round of the day as many ladies struggled with the conditions. Stephanie Kono of UCLA placed second just one stroke back, while Cydney Clanton of Auburn was third at 4-under-par.
Also playing well for Stanford was Sydney Burlison who finished in a tie for 27th. Burlison shot a 75 on Sunday to finish at 10-over-par for the tournament. She was tied for second on the weekend in birdies made with 12.
Lila Barton finished a good weekend with a final-round 77. Barton finished tied for 34th at 11-over-par.
Finally, Rebecca Durham was the fourth scorer on Sunday with a round of 5-over-par 76. Durham tied for 54th after playing the weekend in 15-over-par.
Sally Watson was tied for 58th at 16-over-par for the tournament. Watson shot a 79 on Sunday.
Playing as individuals, were Danielle Fraiser and Marissa Mar. Miller placed tied for 65th at 18-over-par, while Frasier was tied for 94th at 26-over and Mar was tied for 97th at 27-over.
This concludes the fall season for Stanford as they will not again compete until February when they travel to Arizona for the Wildcat Invitational.
