SEATTLE-- Stanford Sailing is in ninth place after the first day of sailing on Lake Washington, tallying 37 points on very calm waters to open up the National Dinghy Semifinals.
St. Mary's College of Maryland leads the overall field with 13 points, as only four races could commence.
The "A" division team of Nick Dugdale and Hannah Burroughs tallied 20 points with one eighth place and one 12th place finish, while the "B" division team of Peter Stemler and Katie Jewett was eighth and ninth for 17 points.
The regatta between 18 teams finishes off on Sunday with the top nine teams advancing to the national finals on June 1-3 in Madison, WI. The western nine will join nine teams from the eastern semifinals in Charleston, SC for the championships.
