CHARLESTON, SC-- In the first team intersectional of the spring season, Stanford Sailing finished fifth of 10 teams at the Bob Bavier Intersectional.
Stanford's crew of entirely freshman skippers went 5-4 on the front half of the two-day event and then 5-4 on the back half for a combined record of 10-8.
The nine wins put the Cardinal in the middle of the pack, more impressive, the fact Stanford used just freshmen skippers to sail against light winds on both days on the South Carolina shores. Georgetown and host, College of Charleston finished with 19 wins a piece, followed by St. Mary's (Md.) and Navy with 16 and 11 wins a piece.
The Cardinal missed the final four round robin by just one win, losing twice to St. Mary's and spliting with Navy.
