Dixon, Gentry Excel At The Winter Cup Challenge

Las Vegas, Nev. - The Stanford gymnastics team had some exceptional results at the Winter Cup Challenge that will help decide the U.S. National Team. Josh Dixon and Tim Gentry set themselves up for potential spots on the team after a pair of top-8 finishes.

Dixon led the Cardinal, placing sixth overall. The Cardinal senior scored 168.800 over two days to likely earn his spot on the national team. Dixon's best event was the was the floor exercise where he had scores of 15.050 and 15.450 to place second overall on that event. He also performed well on the vault where his scores of 15.250 and 15.600 were good enough for sixth overall.

Gentry was also impressive, potentially earning his spot on the national team by placing eighth with all-around scores of 81.850 and 85.650 for a two-day total of 167.500. Gentry excelled on his best event, the still rings with scores of 14.700 and 15.050 to place second overall.

A pair of Cardinal freshmen also fared well with Chris Turner placing 18th with a two-day total of 161.400 and Cale Robinson placing 27th with a score of 137.050. Turner had a best event finish of 10th on pommel horse, placing 10th overall with scores of 13.400 and 13.300. Robinson did not technically compete in the all-around as he only participated in five of the six events. Robinson was outstanding on vault with scores of 15.950 and 15.850 to place third in the event.

Senior Alex Buscaglia also had a solid meet, placing 23rd in the all-around. He scored 157.650 after scores of 77.150 and 80.500. Buscaglia excelled on horizontal bar where he is the defending Pan-American Champion. His scores of 15.800 and 14.900 were good enough for second in the event.

Also competing for Stanford was John Martin, who placed fifth on the pommel horse. Martin had scores of 13.500 and 14.350 to be one of the top athletes on that apparatus.

In the prelims, Nicholas Noone competed on select events with some solid results. Noone was the top finisher in his session on parallel bars, earning a season-best score of 14.350. Noone also competed on the still rings, scoring 13.350, which was tied for fifth in his morning session.
