Box Score

AUSTIN, Texas-- No. 9-ranked Stanford (6-4) took advantage of three errors, beating No. 6-ranked Longhorns (6-4) 9-2, behind two RBI doubles from Stephen Piscotty.

Dean McArdle (2-0) pitched the first seven shutout innings, before giving up a single run with two outs in the eighth. McArdle went a career-best 7.2 innings, giving up one run on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Stanford capitalized on two errors over the first two innings, to lead 3-0. An RBI double by Piscotty followed by a single and misplay by right fielder Mark Payton made it 2-0 in the first.

A missed catch by third baseman Erich Weiss extended the third, as Stanford went up 3-0 following an RBI double by Jake Stewart.

Stewart, Piscotty, Kenny Diekroeger and Lonnie Kauppila all had multi-hit games as part of an 11-hit attack.

Another error in the fifth added to Texas' troubles as Stanford added three runs to lead 6-0. Piscotty's second double, in the fifth, made it 4-0, before centerfielder Cohl Walla couldn't catch a line drive by Ben Clowe, making it 5-0. A Kauppila single then made it 6-0.

Two additional errors were made by Weiss in the seventh after a Brian Ragira groundout made it 7-0. Two more runs finished off the day for the Cardinal, as a Clowe triple and an infield single by Ragira made it 9-0 in the eighth.

Cole Green (0-2) lasted just 2.0 innings, giving up the first three runs (one earned). He was the first of six pitchers for the Longhorns.
