Stanford Fencing Places 10th At The NCAA Championships

Columbus, Ohio - The Stanford fencing program had a big weekend at the NCAA Championships as the team placed 10th overall and three Stanford athletes were named All-Americans.

The Cardinal men led the way, scoring 13 points in saber, 14 points in foil and 23 points in epee. The 50 combined points ranked the Cardinal eighth among the men. The Cardinal women also fared well, scoring 22 points. The women were particularly strong in epee where it had 18 points. The other four points came in foil.

The men were led by new All-Americans, Turner Caldwell and Max Murphy. Caldwell was seventh in foil with 14 victories, while Murphy placed 11th in saber, earning 11 victories.

Also faring well for the Cardinal men was Jake Harbour who just missed All-America status, placing 13th in epee. Harbour earned 13 victories for the Cardinal. In the same event, Kevin Mo placed 17th, earning 11 victories and giving Stanford 24 points in epee.

Earning All-America honors for the Cardinal women was Francesca Bassa who placed fifth with 14 victories. Bassa had the highest placement of any Cardinal competitor over the weekend and just missed the final four competitors in the event.

Also competing in foil was Ashley Titan who placed 24th. Titan earned four victories to give Stanford a total of 18 in the event.

The other Stanford competitor was Meaghan Conway who was 24th in foil with four victories.

The NCAA Championships concludes another successful season for Lisa Milgram and the Cardinal fencers. The 10th-place finish makes it six-straight seasons that Stanford has placed in the top-10 at the NCAA Championships.
