April 2, 2011

Box Score

PULLMAN, Wash.-- Snow did not cool No. 11-ranked Stanford (12-7, 1-1 Pac-10). Brian Ragira drove in seven, including a grand slam, Lonnie Kauppila drove in five with six hits and Austin Wilson went 4-for-6 with four RBIs to lead the Cardinal to a 22-3 win over host Washington State (11-11, 1-4 Pac-10) to even the series.

Jordan Pries (4-1) meanwhile struck out a season-best seven in a five-hit seven-inning performance, delayed 33 minutes by snow. Pries gave up two runs.

Kenny Diekroeger extended his hit streak to 13 games with three hits and four runs as Stanford finished with 25 hits as seven starters had multi-hit games.

Stanford pounded Wazzu piching all night, scoring seven runs in the second and following a snow delay, added five more runs to lead 16-1 in the fifth. Five more unearned runs came across in the sixth make it 21-1.

The on slaught got started in the second, as Zach Jones hit his second home run of the weekend, adding to the Cardinal lead in the second, with a three-run homer to make it 5-0. Ragira then took the first pitch from reliever Richie Ochoa over the centerfield wall for a grand slam to make it 9-0. Ochoa was chased an inning later following Tyler Gaffny and Kauppila RBI singles.

Following a 33-minute snow delay in the fifth, a Ragira  two-run single was followed by a three-run homer by Wilson to make it 16-1. Pries then came back to strikeout the side in the bottom of the fifth.

A three-run triple by Kauppila, his fourth hit, was part of the five-run sixth, making it 21-1.

Starter James Wise gave up eight of the first nine runs, as he could only get two outs in the second before being relieved by Ochoa. Wise gave up two runs to the Cardinal in the first on a Kenny Diekroeger RBI single and Gaffney ground out.

Sunday's finale is at noon... Stanford returns home briefly on Tuesday to host San Jose State at 5:30 p.m.
