STANFORD, Calif. - San Francisco, open your golden gates - here come the Stanford Cardinal.

Cardinal and White Spring Game activities got underway on Wednesday morning, as Bradford M. Freeman Director of Football David Shaw visited San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee at City Hall. Mayor Lee presented Coach Shaw with a special proclamation while Shaw reciprocated by presenting his honor with a Stanford football jersey.

Mayor Lee and Coach Shaw discussed and shared personal stories of their experiences working as educators with young men. Lee also expressed the desire to maintain a relationship between his office and the Stanford Football program.

Wednesday's visit was facilitated by San Francisco Recreation and Parks Commissioner Meagan Levitan, a Stanford alumna.

The annual Cardinal and White Spring Game will take place on Saturday, April 9 at historic Kezar Stadium in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.

Fan Fest activities begin at 12 noon with kickoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN3.com with Dave Flemming and Mike Bellotti calling the action. The contest will be replayed nationally on ESPNU on Tuesday, April 19 at 10:00 p.m. PT and Saturday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. PT.

Teams will play four, 12-minute quarters.

Live music will be provided by the incomparable Leland Stanford, Jr. University Marching Band beginning at 1:15 p.m.

Fans are invited to visit the food and beer garden, provided by CB Hannegan's, the South Bay's popular brew pub and restaurant.

In addition, fans will also have diverse food options from Off the Grid, San Francisco's top food truck vendors, including Onigilly Samurai Snack, LIBA Falafel and CupKates Cupcake Truck.

Stanford's cheer squad will also be on hand to help fans get in the spirit of the day by providing free face painting services.
