Women 3rd, Men 4th at the Pepsi Team Invitational

Eugene, Calif. - The Stanford track and field teams competed in the Pepsi Team Invitational with Oregon, Nebraska and Washington. The Cardinal women placed third with 143.5 points, while the men were fourth with 121.

The Cardinal women had some record-breaking performances as Kori Carter set the Stanford record in the 100-meter hurdles, while Katerina Stefanidi broke the meet record in the pole vault.

Carter led the Cardinal women, winning both hurdles. Carter broke her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles in 13.38 with teammate Katie Nelms second in 13.67. Carter also won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.62 that ranks third in school history. Nelms was seventh in the 400's with a time of 1:02.10, while Kala Stepter was eighth in 1:02.51.

The other record breaker was Stefanidi who broke the meet record in the pole vault. Stefanidi cleared 14-4 to win the meet title as well. Ellie McCardwell was fourth with a vault of 12-11 ½, which ranks seventh in school history.

Also winning an event in the field was Whitney Liehr, who captured the triple jump. Liehr leaped 41-6 to earn the meet title. Karynn Dunn was seventh in the event with a mark of 39-1 ¾.

Other notables were Brittni Dixon-Smith who was the runner-up in both the 200 meters (24.42) and the long jump (19-10 ¼), Shataya Hendricks who was the runner-up in the 100 meters (11.82) and Adrienne Johnson who was the runner-up in the high jump (5-6).

On the men's side, Geoffrey Tabor had a big day, placing second in both the shot put and the discus. Tabor tossed 57-10 ½ in the shot put, which ranks ninth all-time at Stanford. In the discus, Tabor tosses 182-2 to finish second, while teammate Carter Wells was eighth in with a throw of 155-0. Wells was also third in the hammer with a throw of 191-2.

Also excelling in the field events was Casey Roche in the pole vault. Roche cleared 16-8 ¾ to finish as the meet runner-up.

On the track, Amaechi Morton finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 21.55. He also doubled back in the 110-meter hurdles where he finished fifth with a time of 14.54.

In the distances, Chris Derrick placed third in the 1,500 meters in 3:48.26, while Brendan Gregg was third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:05.67.

The Cardinal will be back in action next week with the 117th running of the Big Meet. Stanford and Cal will complete in a scored dual meet to decide Bay Area bragging rights. Field events begin at 11:50 a.m., while running events will begin at 2:00 p.m., all at Stanford's Cobb Track and Angell Field.
