Cardinal Completes Sweep Over Beavers

STANFORD, Calif. - The 11th-ranked Stanford softball team completed the sweep over Oregon State, 3-1, Sunday at Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal improves to 30-8 overall and 5-4 in the Pac-10, while the Beavers fall to 18-16 on the season and 1-8 in the conference.

Sophomore pitcher Teagan Gerhart registered her 16th win of the season as she struck out seven OSU hitters and did not allow an earned run. The Beavers' Tina Andreana took the loss, falling to 5-7 on the year.

Stanford jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Junior Sarah Hassman led off with an infield single and then stole second. Junior shortstop Ashley Hansen drew a walk in her first at-bat to put two runners on for the Cardinal. Freshman designated player Danielle Miller drove in the first run on a single up the middle. Sophomore Jenna Rich then hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Hansen.

The Beavers cut the lead to one as they scored on a sacrifice fly by catcher Audrey Roderfeld in the top of the fourth inning.

Stanford pushed the lead back up to 3-1 as Miller hit an RBI single up the middle to score freshman Corey Hanewich from second.

The Cardinal held on to win its second consecutive Pac-10 series, including its first sweep of the season.

Stanford will be back in action, Tuesday, Apr. 19. The Cardinal travels to Pacific to take on the Tigers at 4 p.m. in Stockton, Calif. Stanford then continues Pac-10 play at rival California, Thursday-Saturday, Apr. 21-23 in Berkeley, Calif.
