UCLA Evens Series Behind Bauer

STANFORD, Calif.-- Trevor Bauer (8-1) tied his career-high with 17 strikeouts as No. 11-ranked UCLA (21-13, 10-4 Pac-10) evened the series following a 4-1, four-hitter on Friday night over No. 26-ranked Stanford (18-13, 4-7 Pac-10).

In a game that saw a combined 29 strikeouts, Jordan Pries (4-4) struck out a season-best seven for the third time this season, taking the loss, after giving up four runs on 10 hits over six innings.

After Stanford scored the first run of the game in the third, the Bruins responded with runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to lead 4-1.

UCLA pounced back in the fourth with an RBI double from Cody Keffer to tie it at 1-1, before a Pries wild pitch then made it 2-1. A two-out RBI single from Dean Espy in the fifth then made it 3-1. A single up the middle, this time by Steve Rodriguez made it 4-1 in the sixth.

Stanford loaded the bases in the third, and scored its only run of the game after Stephen Piscotty swung and missed and the ball squirted away from catcher Steve Rodriguez, allowing Lonnie Kauppila to score from third and make it 1-0.

NOTES:The Saturday finale is at 1 p.m... Stanford hosts Cal on Monday and are at Saint Mary's next Tuesday, before traveling to Arizona State starting on Friday...
