Hey Card Fans!
For those of you who might not know me, my name is Alix Van Zandt, but on the softball field I go by VZ. I am a sophomore infielder from Washington.
As you may have heard, this past weekend we traveled to Cal to take on our rivals, the Bears. The Cardinal rebounded with a win Friday after a close 2-1 loss in our Thursday game, but fell in the series finale on Sunday at Berkeley. It was a tough on-the-road series, but we responded with a 6-0 win over UC Davis this past Tuesday and are looking forward to taking on Washington this weekend. It's sure to be an exciting weekend of Stanford softball that you won't want to miss!
Midweek games, traveling and midterms have made for a busy couple of weeks and we are looking forward to being back home for our last Pac-10 series of the season. This weekend is extra exciting because on Sunday we will honor our seniors, Ashley Chinn and Melisa Koutz, who will be playing their last Pac-10 regular season home games in the Cardinal uniform this weekend. Both have contributed enormously to the Stanford Softball program over the past four years and are incredible players and teammates. I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to play with and learn from them. I cannot imagine next year without them, but luckily we still have the remainder of Pac-10's and postseason to see them play some great Stanford Softball. Please come out this Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. for Senior Day to cheer on these two great Stanford softball players!
It's always great to play in front of a home crowd, and we really appreciate all the support. We hope that you guys can make it out to Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium as we take on the Huskies at 7 p.m. on Friday, 1 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday. If not, keep track of us on gostanford.com or follow us on Twitter @StanfordSball!
