Stanford Moves Into Second Place at Pac-10 Championships

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford moved into second place at the 54-hole mark of the Pac-10 Men's Golf Championships on Saturday after shooting a team score of 352 (+2) to move within three strokes of first place USC.

The Cardinal, in search of its first Pac-10 title since 1994, is at 1064 (+14) after three rounds, three shots behind first place USC. The Trojans also carded a team score of 352 (+2) on Saturday to hold onto the top spot on the leader board.

UCLA and Oregon are tied for third at 1070 (+20), nine strokes off the pace. California remains in fifth place at 1083 (+33), followed by Oregon State (6th; 1088), Washington (7th; 1089), Washington State and Arizona (8th; 1090) and Arizona State (10th; 1102).

Oregon State's Alex Moore and USC's Matt Trainer are tied for the individual lead at 205 (-5) after both players carded 1-under rounds of 69 on Saturday.

Trainer was -3 under on his round through 16 holes before collecting bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes to slip into a tie for first place with Moore.

Stanford's Andrew Yun fired a third round 66, the best round of the day, to move into a tie for third place at 208 (-2) with USC's Jeffrey Kang, who carded a 2-under 68 on Saturday.

Stanford's Steve Ziegler and UCLA's Alex Kim are tied for fifth place at 209 (-1) while Hank Frame of Washington State sits alone in seventh place at even par 210.

A total of 11 golfers are within seven strokes of the lead heading into Sunday's final round.

Yun carded the lowest round of the day, turning in a third round 66 to vault into a third place tie with Kang. He had five birdies and just one bogey on his Saturday's card, turning in matching 33s Stanford Golf Course.

Ziegler turned in his second straight even par round of 70 on Saturday following an opening round 69. He got his round off on a positive note with a birdie on the par-5 first hole, but picked up bogeys on the par-3 fourth and par-4 ninth holes. Ziegler got his round back to even par with a birdie on the par-5 16th hole.

Senior Graham Brockington, who started the day tied for fourth place, shot a three over 73 on Saturday and is now tied for ninth place. Brockington was just one over on his round before finishing with a double bogey six on the par-4 18th hole.

Steven Kearney closed with birdies on holes No. 17 and 18 en roué to a third round 72 and is tied for 28th place at 218.

Freshman Cameron Wilson is at 223 (+13) and in 45th place after a third round score of 76.

Junior David Chung rallied for a bogey-bogey start with birdies on holes No. 14 and 15 to finish with a one over 71.

The fourth and final round of the 2011 Pac-10 Men's Golf Championships will get underway on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. at Stanford Golf Course. The Cardinal will tee off at 9:38 off the first hole and will be paired with USC.

Andrew Yun and Martin Trainer tee off at 10:16 a.m. off hole No. 1.
