Unterreiner Earns NCAA Elite 88 Award

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford junior Miles Unterreiner was honored as the recipient for the NCAA Elite 88 Award for indoor track and field. Unterreiner earned the award for the highest grade point average at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships.

Unterreiner qualified for the meet after running time of 13:48.13 in winning the MPSF title. He then advanced to the national meet where he placed 15th to earn second team All-America honors.

Unterreiner was given the NCAA Elite 88 Award in recognition for his 3.957 grade points average, which was the highest at the meet.

The Gig Harbor, Wash,, native is a history major and has been a major contributor to the Stanford distance program during his time on The Farm. Unterreiner was a big part of the Stanford cross-country season where the Cardinal placed fourth in the nation and won the Pac-10 title where Unterreiner placed ninth individually.

Unterreiner is the second Stanford track and field athlete to be awarded the Elite 88 award after Kate Niehaus was honored in 2009 at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
