HI! My name is Kelsey Gerhart, and I am a catcher on our very own Stanford Softball Team!
I want to begin by giving a shout out to our women's water polo team. Congratulations on bringing home Stanford's 101st national championship! This Spring alone, Stanford athletics has attained its 100th and 101st NCAA titles! Why stop there? Let's make it 102!
That being said, Stanford Softball begins its own journey toward an NCAA title this weekend as we host Regionals. Teams from the University of Pacific, Fresno State, and the University of Nebraska will travel to our terrain and compete in a double-elimination showdown that will determine who advances to Super Regionals.
Posting a 38-15 record, we have had an overall successful year. Last weekend we closed our regular season with a Pac-10 series at Arizona State. Through well fought games, clutch hitting, aggressive plays in the field, battles won in the circle, and an overall combined team effort, we recorded a 6-1 victory over the No. 1 ranked team on Friday night.
But now, it is time for us to leave regular season behind and take with us into Regionals the experience we attained through the 53 games we have competed in this season. The months we have spent training, conditioning, and competing, have come down to this very weekend! Each game here on out is a stepping stone that must be taken one at a time, leading us down the path toward our ultimate goal, making it to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
Come out and support Stanford Softball at home this Friday against Pacific at 6 p.m. We would love to see your faces in the stands cheering on the Cardinal!
