STANFORD, Calif. - All 35 Stanford University athletics programs exceeded the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate standards and five Cardinal teams earned perfect 1000 scores in the seventh annual set of APR numbers recently released by the NCAA.
The 2011 APR report features a four-year compilation of APR data from the 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10 academic years and measures the eligibility, retention and graduation of student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team. It also serves as a predictor of graduation success.
Stanford's men's golf, men's tennis, men's water polo, women's cross country and women's gymnastics received perfect scores of 1,000. Eleven other teams attained APR scores of 989 or higher, including lacrosse (997), women's soccer (994), women's indoor and outdoor track (993), men's volleyball (992), women's golf (991), women's water polo (991), baseball (990), field hockey (990), men's cross country (989) and women's volleyball (989).
Stanford's football program received an APR rating of 977, which was the highest rating in the Pac-10 Conference and a figure that ranked 11th nationally among Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) schools.
Last week, nine Stanford teams were recognized for posting APR scores that ranked in the top 10 percent of their respective sports.
The overall four-year Division I Academic Progress Rate is up three points to 970. In the high-profile sports, football's average four-year APR is 946, up two points over last year; men's basketball is 945, up five points; and baseball is 959, up five points.
