STANFORD, Calif.- Stanford head coach Tara Danielson has announced the signing of six recruits to National Letters of Intent. The group will join the Cardinal for the 2011 campaign.
The class includes: Dulcie Davies (London, England), Kelsey Harbin (Escondido, Calif.), Shannon Herold (Delta, British Columbia, Canada), Alex McCawley (North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada), Kasey Quon (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Hannah Thiemann (Ladue, Mo.).
"This dedicated group will compliment the emerging style and structure of our program," said Danielson. These six student-athletes are both competitive and spirited, and we are excited to welcome the class of 2015 to our Stanford family."
A 5-7 goalkeeper, Davies is the latest England product to join the Cardinal, joining sophomore and returning leading scorer Becky Dru. Davies possesses a wealth of national team experience as a member of England's U16, U18 and U21 squads, including a bronze-medal finish in 2009 at the U18 Europeans tourney. Davies arrives on The Farm from Alleyn's School, where she was twice named Sportsperson of the Year and a two-time recipient of the David Furnell Trophy for Outstanding Sporting Achievement. A field hockey captain during her senior year, Davies led her squad to a finals appearance during the 2009 English School Indoor Nationals while capturing the Surrey Schools Tournament in 2007. A versatile athlete, Davies was also a four-year letterwinner in water polo at the U16 and U18 levels.
Harbin is a 5-10 defender from Escondido, Calif., and a muti-sport standout earning varsity letters in basketball from San Pasqual High School. An All-CIF First Team selection as a senior, Harbin was also named the Avocado East League Player of the Year while directing her team to a conference championship. One year earlier, Harbin led San Pasqual High School to a CIF Division I title and another league title, while being named All-CIF and first team all-league. A two-time team captain, Harbin was also a member of CIF Division I finalist squads during her freshman and sophomore seasons. Harbin also has playing experience at the national level as a member of the U17 and U19 squads while participating as a member of the 2010 Youth Pan American USA squad that competed in Uruguay. Harbin is a member of the National Honors Society, also being named the 2010 San Diego Union Tribune Student-Athlete of the Year.
Herold, a 5-7 midfielder, hails from Delta, British Columbia, Canada and prepped at South Delta Secondary School. A four-year varsity letterwinner and team captain during her senior season, Herold's squad won four consecutive district championships, including a silver medal in the 2008 Provincial Championships. A gifted athlete on and off the field, Herold was a four-time recipient of the Athletic Achievement and Academic Achievement awards while being named the 2007 Sports Person of the Year. Herold was a two-time member of the Junior National team (2010, 2011) and led Canada to a silver medal at the 2010 Youth Pan American games in Uruguay. A member of the U16 Canadian National Championship team, Herold also contributed to the 2010 Vancouver Women's League Premier Division crown. Herold also earned varsity letters in soccer and basketball.
A 5-5 forward from North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, McCawley was a two-time team captain during her career at Carson Graham Secondary School. A three-time first team All-Star performer, McCawley led her club to a AAA Provincials championship in 2010 after a third-place effort the previous season. McCawley also directed her team to a North Shore AAA High School League championship in each of the last two years. In addition to training with the Senior Women's Canadian team from 2009-10, McCawley served as co-captain for the Junior Women's Canadian team that same season. Also representing Canada at the 2010 Youth Pan American games in Uruguay, McCawley has been appointed to the Regional and Provincial teams since 2007. She also played basketball and rugby, starting for the latter and winning Provincials since 2007.
Quon is a 5-8 midfielder from Lake Forest, Ill., and her sister Rachel, is a sophomore on the Stanford soccer team. A three-year letterwinner and team captain as a senior, Quon was a member of three regional and section championship squads. In addition to leading her club to a state championship in 2008 and state finalist appearances in 2009 and 2010, Quon was tabbed a NSCAA High School All-Region pick last year. A 2010 All-State honoree, Quon was also voted team MVP during her senior season. Competing as a member of the USAFH National Futures Championship squad from 2007-10, Quon was also a two-time USAFH Futures Elite selection. She is also a member of the National Honors Society.
A 5-11 defender, Thiemann arrives on The Farm from Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School and her hometown of Ladue, Mo. A three-year varsity starter, she was named a Harrow West Region All-American and Midwest Regional Team honoree as a junior, in addition to also being named MVP of the lacrosse team. A Futures participant from 2006-11, Thiemann has also been a member of the Futures national championship team in 2008 and 2009. Playing for the Gateway Field Hockey Club team from 2001-09, Thiemann competed with the squad at the Festival Tournament for three seasons , with a first place pool finish in 2009. Thiemann has also excelled in the classroom, serving as Student Council Co-President for the past year while attending the 2009 National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C.
Stanford (15-6, 5-1 NorPac) was impressive once again in 2010, making its 10th NCAA Tournament appearance and capturing the NorPac Tournament title for the fourth straight year. Tara Danielson became the school's winningest first-year head coach, as the Cardinal remained a fixture in the national rankings for all but one week. Xanthe Travlos was named an All-American for the second straight season, leading a balanced team attack in which 18 players appeared in at least one game, 15 scored at least one goal and 16 registered at least one point.
