ANN ARBOR, Mich. - No. 1 Stanford women's water polo opened up its 2011 campaign with a pair of victories Saturday at the Michigan Kickoff in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Cardinal rolled to a 14-3 win over No. 14 Hartwick in the morning before downing No. 6 Loyola Marymount, 14-1, in the afternoon.

The Cardinal (2-0) will finish off its trip to Michigan with another doubleheader Sunday. Stanford opens the day with a 6:35 a.m. PT contest against No. 13 Indiana, followed by a meeting with host and eighth-ranked Michigan at 11:40 a.m. PT.

Pallavi Menon scored five goals Saturday to lead all Cardinal players, including a hat trick in the morning tilt against Hartwick. Freshman Kaley Dodson and sophomore Jillian Garton each scored four times while senior Kim Krueger netted three goals.

All three Stanford goalies saw time Saturday. Senior Amber Oland started the afternoon contest against LMU, making five saves. Fellow senior Kim Hall closed out the morning contest, making three saves. Sophomore Kate Baldoni got the starting call in the morning, stopping five Hartwick shots, and closed out the afternoon contest with three saves in the final quarter and a half.

In morning action, six first-period goals got the Cardinal off to the right start against the Hawks, who could only muster one goal in response. Three more Stanford goals made it 9-1 in the Cardinal's favor at the break, then five more goals in the third period closed out the scoring for Stanford.

Along with Menon's hat trick, Dodson, Garton and Cassie Churnside each scored twice. Additional goals were scored by Krueger, Vee Dunlevie, Victoria Kennedy, Kaitlyn Lo and Melissa Seidemann.

Baldoni made five saves before giving way to Hall, who made three saves of her own.

Stanford continued its dominant two-way play as the afternoon contest got underway against the sixth-ranked Loyola Marymount Lions. Three goals in the opening period got the Cardinal off to another fast start before the team added four more in the second, going up 7-1 at halftime.

LMU managed its only goal of the game in the second frame, but five third-period goals from the Cardinal offense on top of a goose egg produced by its defense made it 12-1 and sewed things up for Stanford.

Dodson, Garton, Krueger, Menon and Seidemann each scored twice in the victory. Dunlevie, Alexis Lee, Alyssa Lo and Lexie Ross all added a goal for the Cardinal as well.

Oland made five saves in her time before Baldoni came on and made three stops to close out Saturday's action for Stanford.
