Oct. 15, 2011

ANNAPOLIS, Md. / HANOVER, N.H. / BERKELEY, Calif.-- Stanford's coed sailing team is in third place at the Navy Coed Regatta, a week after the women's team nearly won on the same course. In a busy weekend another set of teams are sixth at the Captain Hurst Regatta in New Hampshire and the JV squad is battling for a top-10 finish.

At Navy, the B Division of skipper Kevin Laube and the sibling crew of Jack and Kelly Ortel, have scored 58 points over the 12 races, placing in the top-five in seven races and first or second in four races for the top score in their division. Singlehanded sailors Mateo Vargas (76 points) and Kieran Chung-Wolf (40 points) have the second-best score in their divisions as the four divisions have combined for 310 points behind Yale (254) and College of Charleston (261).

In a huge 22-team field at the Captain Hurst Regatta hosted by Darmouth, the B Division squad of Hans Henken and Natalie Urban have the second-best divisional score with 61 points, winning the first three races of the day and also finishing third and ninth twice to close out the first day. Overall the team has 139 points for sixth place.

The JV team at the Stoney Burke out on the San Francisco Bay is in eighth place of 24 teams with Kaitlyn Baab and Michael Dahl skippering the two divisions.
