BOSTON, Mass. - Stanford women's rowing sent its eight to Boston for the Head of the Charles this weekend, and the boat finished eighth Sunday afternoon.

The Cardinal boat, made up of Jenna Levy (coxswain), Erin Radigan, Julianna Kapjian-Pitt, Christina Bax, Kristy Wentzel, Alix Chrumka, Claire Grover, Sarah Bolmer and Daphne Martschenko, turned in a final time of 16:44.68, just over 33 seconds back of Virginia's winning time of 16:11.52.

Radcliffe, Michigan, Yale, Wisconsin, Princeton and Cornell finished second through seventh, respectively.

"It's the most challenging fall river race in the world and it was a beautiful weekend for racing in Boston," said Stanford women's rowing coach Yasemin Farooq. "This was a great experience for the nine girls who earned the trip here and it's always inspirational to get a preseason look at the top crews in the NCAA."

Saturday, Stanford was represented in two races. Lindsay Meyer, who is taking a leave of absence from school this year as she trains for the 2012 Olympic Games, finished third in the championship singles, rowing for the Seattle Rowing Center.

In Saturday's alumni eight women's event, a boat made up of Jen Brown '08 (cox), Kerry Birk `08, Alex Hasbach '10, Cassie Kull '10, Katie O'Neil '09, Molly Loeb '03, Sonia Poltoratski '09, Adrienne Fritsch '10 and Carly Villareal '11 finished eleventh.

In that same event, Stanford Boathouse manager Dana Forbes rowed with the Tennessee alumni boat, finishing fourth.
