Stanford Opens Indoor Season in Boise

BOISE, Idaho - The Stanford track and field teams got the indoor season underway over the weekend at the Jackson Open and Multi Event, hosted by Boise State. The Cardinal had some impressive results, competing mostly in the sprints and field events.

The Cardinal women dominated the field events, winning three events. All-American Katerina Stefanidi got the season off to a solid start, winning the pole vault with a clearance of 13-11 ¼.

Other event winners were Karynn Dunn in the long jump and Jordan Merback in the triple jump. Dunn leaped 19-11 ½ to easily win the long jump, while Merback had a mark of 40-0 ½ to take the triple jump.

The women's sprinters were led by Shataya Hendricks who ran both the 60 and 200 meters. Hendricks placed fourth in the 60 meters with a time 7.64, while she was second in the 200 with a time of 24.58.

Other standouts for the Cardinal were freshman Amber Farrell who was second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.90 and freshman Madeline Treasure who was second in the heptathlon with a score of 3,322 points.

On the men's side, Alfredo Corral excelled in the sprints, finishing third in the 400 meters and sixth in the 200. Corral finished with a time of 48.25 in the 400 and 22.50 in the 200.

Freshman Darian Brooks also impressed with a time of 6.92 in the 60 meters to finish second.

The Cardinal men also excelled in the field, led by Dartis Willis III who won the high jump. The highly touted freshman leaped 6-10 ¾ to dominate the event.

In the pole vault, Corey Dysick placed third with a vault of 16-4 ¾.

The Cardinal is now off until the New Year, but will return in 2012 with the UW Indoor Preview in January 14.
