STANFORD, Calif.-- Jordan Pries (3-1) struck out seven and Tyler Gaffney and Kenny Diekroeger each drove in two runs as No. 12-ranked Stanford (9-6) evened the series with Long Beach State (12-10), following a 6-1 win on Saturday.
Pries got stronger as the game got on, striking out the side in the sixth and another in the seventh, giving up one unearned run on five hits over the first seven innings.
Stanford chased starter Branden Pinder (0-3) from the game in the fifth, scoring three times to lead 5-1. An RBI single by Diekroeger, his second of the day, made it 3-1, before a two-out double by Tyler Gaffney made it 5-1 after an error by second baseman Matt Duffy extended the inning on a bunt by Jake Stewart.
Stanford got to Pinder early with two runs in the first. Diekroeger returned after a one day layoff with an RBI single, before Brian Ragira followed with a two-out single to make it 2-0 in the first. Ragira finished with three hits.
Pinder gave up five runs (three earned) on seven hits for the loss.
A one-hop single off of Pries in the fourth and ensuing error by Pries led to the Dirtbags first run, following a wild pitch, to make it 2-1.
