No. 8 Stanford Blanks No. 35 BYU 7-0 For Ninth Straight Win

April 19, 2011

STANFORD, Calif.- No. 8 Stanford's season-high winning streak stretched to nine matches on Tuesday afternoon following a 7-0 shutout of No. 35 BYU at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Notching its fourth shutout of the year and first since a 7-0 win over Utah back on Feb. 8, Stanford (17-5, 4-1 Pac-10) has not lost since Mar. 22.

Meanwhile, BYU (18-5, 5-0 Mountain West) saw its 14-match winning streak come to an end.

Participating in its final tune-up before Saturday's regular season finale against California, the Cardinal looked sharp in both doubles and singles.

Stanford claimed the doubles point for a 1-0 advantage, sweeping all three matches.

Bradley Klahn's 6-3, 6-0 victory over Evan Urbina at the No. 1 spot put Stanford ahead 2-0, followed by a 6-4, 6-2 triumph from Denis Lin on court four over BYU's only nationally-ranked player in No. 107 Patrick Kawka.

The clincher came from Alex Clayton at the No. 3 position, with the Cardinal senior taking down Spencer Smith 6-3, 6-3.

Stanford hosts California on Saturday, Apr. 23, at 1 p.m. The match will also represent Senior Day for Clayton, Greg Hirshman and Ted Kelly.
