Stanford Lightweights Capture vitaminwater Cup In San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Stanford Lightweight Rowing brought home the vitaminwater Cup after taking first place in the competition at the San Diego Crew Classic over the weekend.

The Cardinal brought two boats to compete for the cup over the weekend. The "A" boat captured Saturday's heat with a winning time of 6:41.70, while the "B" boat took third with a time of 6:59.84. The University of Victoria finished in second place.

In Sunday's Grand Final, the "A" crew once again crossed the line first, this time in a winning time of 7:06.00, nearly six seconds faster than the runner-up Victoria crew. The Cardinal "B" crew took fifth with a time of 7:33.94.

The varsity eight also raced in the Seaworld Cal Cup, in which they faced 17 heavyweight crews from across the country. The Stanford lightweights placed a close second to Kansas State in the heat on Saturday and advanced to the Sunday final where they edged out Georgetown and Sacramento State to finish in fourth place with a time of 7:00.59, just behind Alabama, Kansas State, and Tulsa.

The Lightweights make a trip to the East Coast in two weeks to row against Harvard and MIT on April 16 and 17, respectively.
