May 28, 2011

Box Score

BERKELEY, Calif.-- No. 24-ranked Stanford (32-20, 14-12 Pac-10) finished off its regular season with a 4-2 win at No. 23-ranked Cal (31-20, 13-13 Pac-10), before the second game was called due to rain with the Cardinal leading 7-1 with two outs in the top of the fourth.

In game one, Jordan Pries (5-5) and Chris Reed combined on a seven-hitter to defeat Cal 4-2. Tyler Gaffney extended his hit streak to 17 games and would have had 18 games, if the game had counted, as his double in the fourth, ignited the four-run, final inning.

Prior to the rain, the Cardinal scored four times in the fourth, as a Wilson two-run single capped the inning and made it 7-1. Wilson's hit also forced a rain delay and eventual end to the regular season as the statistics did not count.

In game one, Pries pitched into the eighth, giving up two unearned runs on six hits over 7.1 innings. He gave the ball to Reed with two runners on and a 4-2 lead. First baseman Brian Ragira threw home for the second out before Reed induced a fly ball to send it to the ninth. Reed induced a game ending double play for his eighth save.

Austin Wilson drove in two of the first three runs with RBI singles in the first and third innings, and threw out a runner at third for the final out in the third inning as Stanford  built a 4-1 lead.

Wilson and Zach Jones each had three hits against loser Justin Jones (7-6), who went the first eight innings, giving up four runs on 12 hits.
