STANFORD, Calif.-- Top-ranked Arizona (6-0) used a 1-2-3 sweep in the last individual event to edge No. 3-ranked Stanford (6-1) 153-145 on Saturday afternoon.

Following the second of two wins by Stanford diver Kristian Ipsen in the 3-meter, Arizona broke a 131-131 tie after Sam Rowan won the 400 IM with a time of 3:49.25 to push its lead to 147-134 with one event to go. Despite an 11-point Stanford win in the meet's final event, the Wildcats held on to the victory with each team winning eight events.

Stanford closed out the meet with a pool record of 1:19.26, to break a two-year old mark (1:19.30) as Geoff Cheah touched the wall .09 seconds ahead of Arizona (1:19.35). It was the second of two pool records on the day, as Arizona's Carl Michelson set the new standard in the 100 breast (53.97), breaking Stanford's Michael Bruce's 2002 record of 54.02.

Chad La Tourette, who had lost just one long distance dual meet in his four-year career was pushed by Arizona's Matt Barber in the 500 free. The Stanford senior passed Barber over the final 25 yards to win with a time of 4:24.28, six-tenth's of a second ahead of Barber's time of 4:24.88. Earlier, La Tourette led a 1-2-3 sweep for the Cardinal in the 1000 free, posting a time of 8:59.21. La Tourette's streak now stands at 21 long distance dual wins in a row.

Ipsen twice kept the Cardinal in the contest, while running his collegiate win streak to 10 straight to start his career.

Ipsen's first win, in the 1-meter with a score of 389.18, cut the Arizona lead to 75-74 after the Wildcats build a 52-40 lead following the 100 breaststroke. Aaron Wayne's win in the 100 free gave the Cardinal a brief 85-83 advantage with six events to go, before the Wildcats took home wins in the 200 back and 200 breast. La Tourette in the 500 free and Giles Smith in the 100 fly then traded victories prior to Ipsen's second win and tie score. Ipsen's tally of 467.55 tied the score at 131-131.

Stanford next travels to USC for a two-day meet on February 3 and 4.
