LONG BEACH, Calif.-- Stanford is four points out of first place after the first of two days of sailing at the Rose Bowl regatta on Saturday.
Stanford's 24 points is behind the Naval Academy's 20 points and is three points ahead of third place College of Charleston and its 27 points.
Stanford's A Division team of Kieran Chung and Yuri Namikawa have the top divisional score with 12 points, three points ahead of Navy following four top-five finishes among the 29 teams.
In the B Division, Navy, Georgetown and St. Mary's College (Md.) each have a combined five points. Stanford's B team of Sally Mace and Haley Kirk is in sixth place following a fifth and seventh place showing.
The Rose Bowl regatta concludes on Sunday on the Southern California shores.
