FEDERAL WAY, Wash.-- David Nolan (200 back) and Chad La Tourette (1650 free) both set school-records with NCAA runner-up finishes as Stanford finished in third place at the NCAA Championships. Nolan was part of an impressive trifecta for the Cardinal in which they finished 2-3-4 in the 200 back.

It was the Cardinal's 27th top-three finish at the NCAA meet since 1981. Stanford had 14 top-four finishes over the three days.

Cal took the team title with 535.5 points, followed by Texas (491), Stanford (426.5), Arizona (396) and Michigan (271).

La Tourette set the new American record at 14:24.25, earning his third NCAA runner-up finish, falling to Georgia's Martin Grodzki, who broke an 11-year old NCAA record in the mile with a time of 14:24.08. La Tourette bettered his own school-record by nine seconds (14:33.55) as both swimmers were under the 2011 NCAA record by Chris Thompson of Michigan (14:26.62).

In the 200 back, Nolan was an NCAA runner-up for the second time this weekend, breaking the school-record of Brian Retterer (1:40.06) in 1995 with a time of 1:39.74 in the closest 200 back in NCAA history. Arizona's Cory Chitwood became a three-time NCAA Champion in the 200 back by touching the wall eight one-hundreths ahead of Nolan with a time of 1:39.66. Matt Thompson (1:41.81) and Matthew Swanston (1:41.99) finished in third and fourth place.

Bobby Bollier and David Mosko finished off their respective careers in fourth (1:42.45) and seventh (1:44.75) in the 200 fly. Aaron Wayne closed out his junior season with his second fourth place finish, placing fourth in the 100 free with a time of 42.51, the fifth-fastest time at Stanford and a career-best.

Kristian Ipsen closed out his first collegiate championship by finishing as the consolation bracket's runner-up in the platform with a score of 350.75, five points behind Tennessee's Mauricio Robles Rodriguez' score of 355.30. Ipsen in just his second collegiate platform competition scored 7.0's or better on five out of six dives, topping out at 79.05 points on an inward 2 1/2 somersault from the 5-Meter platform.

Stanford closed out the meet with a fifth place finish in the 400 free relay with Wayne taking the early lead over the second leg as the Cardinal finished with a time of 2:60.63.

NOTES: The seven-time All-American Nolan closed out his first NCAAs with two runner-up finishes in the 200 back and 100 back and third in the 200 IM for 50 points, the tenth Stanford swimmer to hit 50 points at any NCAA meet... fellow freshman Ipsen closed out his first NCAA Championship with 44 points, thanks to an NCAA title in the 3-Meter, runner-up finish in the 1-Meter and 10th place finish in the platform... La Tourette finished his career as an eight-time All-American with 112 points (30th place all-time), finishing first or second in the 1650 free all four years, winning the 2010 title... David Mosko finished with 86 points (42nd all-time) and was a 14-time All-American, while Bollier was a 14-time All-Ameircan with 109 points (31st all-time)... Curtis Lovelace finished as a 13-time All-American, four times each in the 100 and 200 breast, with 78 points (46th place all-time)... of Stanford's 10 seniors on the roster, six scored points at this year's NCAA Championships.
