Stanford Begins Road Trip with Loss at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Stanford dropped to 2-6 on the season after it fell 14-9 to Brown on the first leg of its five-game road swing that covers the next two weeks. Stanford fell behind early, but responded to take the lead, but could not stop the Bears in the second half.

Stanford was again led by Emilie Boeri who tallied two goals and three assists, while her sister Anna Boeri also scored twice.

The Cardinal fell behind 3-0 in the first 3:30 of the game, but responded with two quick goals tow get back in it. First Maria Fortino scored a free-position goal, followed by Emily Newstrom finding the back of the net.

Brown came back with a goal, but the Cardinal scored two more to tie it at four. Carolyn Bradley scored on pass from Emilie Boeri who then added her first goal.

The teams traded goals until the half, until Brown scored three of the last four to take a 9-7 lead the break. Boeri scored her second goal and Hannah Farr added a pair to account for the Cardinal offensive output.

The second half did not go as well for Stanford as the Bears controlled possession and Stanford managed just two more goals. Brown won six of eight draw controls in the half and held a 17-8 advantage for the game. No Stanford player had more than one draw control, while Erin Roos of Brown had five on her own.

Anna Boeri scored both second-half goals for Stanford, both coming on assists from her sister, but it was not enough.

Brown pulled away, leading 12-7 just 3:37 into the second frame.

Lyndsey Munoz again went all 60 minutes in goal and made nine saves, but it was not enough.

Stanford will stay on the East Coast for two more games as part of its Spring Break trip. The Cardinal will play at Harvard on Wednesday at 1pm and at Albany on Friday at noon. Stanford to campus, but will quickly turn around to begin conference play at Fresno State and at Denver.
