TUCSON, Ariz.-- Konner Wade (4-0) won the battle of undefeateds, beating Brett Mooneyham (5-1) and the No. 2-ranked Cardinal (16-5, 2-3 Pac-12) 4-2 in another error plagued game. With the win No. 8-ranked Arizona (20-7, 6-2 Pac-12) looks for the three-game sweep on Sunday.
Wade pitched a three-hitter, striking out seven and walking one for the win. Mooneyham struck out seven and gave up three unearned runs (four total) on nine hits over 7.1 innings to take the loss.
The two teams combined for eight errors and six unearned runs on Friday and had five errors and four unearned runs on Saturday.
Stanford's fielding woes continued, as two errors in the sixth allowed Arizona to take a 3-2 lead. An attempted sacrifice bunt and ensuing throwing error by Mooneyham allowed the game to be tied at 2-2, before a fielding error by Brian Ragira at first, gave Arizona the 3-2 lead.
Eric Smith's 12-game hit streak ended as well, as the Cardinal catcher went 0-for-4.
Lonnie Kauppila broke up the no-hitter after 5.1 innings after Wade trapped a comebacker and then lost it, looking skyward, to allow Kauppila to reach first. Kauppila came around to score on a sacrifice fly before a two-out, two-base error at third allowed Stanford to go up 2-1.
Arizona took a 1-0 lead in the first when Alex Mejia scored from first on a double and ensuing error in left.
NOTES: Since Monday's six-error loss to USC, Stanford has committed 14 errors in four games... Sunday's contest is at noon. The Cardinal host Saint Mary's again on Monday, before traveling to Washington next weekend for a pre-Easter series starting on Thursday, April 5.
