STANFORD, Calif. - The honors continue to roll in for Stanford senior Nick Amuchastegui as he was named the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for wrestling, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Amuchastegui is a two-time NCAA Elite 88 Award winner and was the 2011 Capital One/CoSIDA Men's At-Large Acadmic All-American of the Year.
Joining Amuchastegui on the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team is senior Kyler Hasson and sophomore Alan Yen. Amuchastegui is a four-time honoree, while Hasson is being recognized for the second time in his career. It is the first honor for Yen.
Earning second team accolades are junior Timmy Boone, redshirt sophomore Bret Baumbach and sophomores Donovan Halpin, Garrett Schaner and Dan Scherer. Boone is a two-time honoree, while Baumbach, Halpin, Schaner and Sherer are all being recognized for the first time.
Stanford led all schools with eight selections. Boise State had four honorees, while Cal State Bakersfield had three.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be a significant contributor.
