COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The third-ranked Stanford men's gymnastics team finished second at the MPSF Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo., home of host Air Force Academy. The No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners captured the team title with a score of 355.600. The Cardinal scored 352. 100 and were followed by No. 7 California (345.950) and No. 12 Air Force (335.950).
Eddie Penev took the individual title on floor exercise with a 15.850. Paul Hichwa finished fifth (15.100) and Jordan Nolff and Cale Robinson tied for eighth (15.000).
The Cardinal captured two of the top four spots on pommel horse with Chris Turner finished second (14.750) and Gabriel Alvarado fourth (14.600).
James Fosco tied for first on still rings with a 15.300 and Jordan Nolff was seventh with a 14.750. Penev tied for tenth with a 14.500.
Penev captured his second individual title of the night on vault with a score of 15.350 and Sean Senters tied for third with a 15.000. Turner was seventh with a score of 14.900.
Cameron Foreman finished second on parallel bars, posting a 15.250. Penev (14.800), John Martin (14.650), Robinson (14.600) and Nolff (14.450) also posted top-ten scores, finishing fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth, respectively.
Hichwa led the Cardinal on high bar, finishing fourth with a score of 14.400. Turner and Foreman tied for seventh posting scored of 14.250.
Penev finished second in the all-around competition with a score of 87.050.
Oklahoma's Mark Williams was named MPSF Coach of the Year and fellow Sooner Jake Dalton MPSF Gymnast of the Year.
Dalton continued an impressive season with individual titles on still rings, parallel bars, high bar and all-around and second place finishes on floor exercise and vault.
The Cardinal has two weeks to prepare to defend it's national title at the NCAA Championships, April 19-21 in Norman, Okla.
