REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.-- Stanford Sailing, ranked No. 6 nationally in team racing, won its fifth-consecutive Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference team title with a perfect 15-0 finish.
The win guarantees the Cardinal a return trip to the national championships, where it has been in team, women's and coed sailing, each season and in each division since 2008.
In the team's final tuneup for next week's women's championships in Hawai'i, the Cardinal women are in third place at the two-day Emily Wick Trophy, hosted in Connecticut. The coed championships are in Santa Barbara in two weeks. Nationals begins May 30 on the shores of Lake Travis, Texas.
Over the first 10 races, Stanford accumulated 125 points from its A and B Division teams. Sally Mace skippered the A Division to top-six finishes in seven races for 52 points, second-best in the division. Molly McKinney skippered the B Division to 73 points, scoring in the lower eight of the 17-team field in four races for 73 points. They also won twice and were third and fourth. Boston College leads the field with 111 points, followed by Brown (121 points) and Stanford (125).
The Cardinal swept through the PCCSC team championships with perfect 6-0 marks in the first two rounds, followed by a 3-0 finish to the afternoon. UC Santa Barbara was second with an overall mark of 10-5, while Hawaii beat USC in a sail off for third place, as both finished 8-7.
