MOSCOW, Russia-- Stanford freshman Kristian Ipsen and his partner Troy Dumais scored a silver medal at the FINA World Series in the 3-meter synchro event on Saturday, giving the U.S. four medals on this third leg of four championships.
It has been a busy season for the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. He won the NCAA title in the 3-meter and was an NCAA runner-up in the 1-meter after winning both events at the Zone Regional Championships. He also scored in the platform with a tenth place showing at NCAA's and eighth place finish at Zones.
During the collegiate regular season, he won all twelve 1- and 3-meter events he was able to compete in. He missed the February Pac-12 Championships because he was competing for Team USA in London at the World Cup, where he was sixth with Dumais in the 3-meter synchro and was 24th in the 3-meter individual springboard.
In August, Ipsen began his season with gold medals in Los Angeles at the AT&T Diving Championships in the 3-Meter and 3-Meter Synchro. In late October he won a silver at the Pan Am Games in Guadalajara, Mexico in the 3-meter synchro and two days later was sixth in the 3-Meter.
Ipsen will head to Tijuana for the final FINA World Series event on April 20-21.
Other upcoming events for Stanford divers include the USA Diving Grand Prix in Ft. Lauderdale May 10-13 with Cassidy Krug competing in the 3-meter and Ipsen competing in the 3-meter and synchro 3-meter with Dumais.
NBC's family of networks will broadcast the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Federal Way, Wash. from June 19-24, with the NBC Sports Network (formerly Versus) televising the first four days and NBC broadcasting the finals of the men's 10-meter and men's and women's 3-meters on June 23 and 24.
