GOLD RIVER, Calif. - Stanford women's rowing finished up its weekend at the Lake Natoma Invitational Sunday, as the II Eight took second and the Four and I Eight took third in Group A action.
Overall, the ninth-ranked Cardinal took third in Group A, which featured the top three teams from Saturday's action, with eight points. California topped Group A with 18 points while Wisconsin earned 10.
"It was a very good regatta for us," said Stanford women's rowing head coach Yasmin Farooq. "The cross-regional competition was excellent and we got a nice midseason look at a number of teams. Having Wisconsin as a gauge in both race two on Saturday and the A final turned out to be really helpful, and even though we see Cal multiple times during the season, an opportunity to race our rival is always valuable. We made some good progress this weekend, and I'm encouraged about what we can do in the weeks ahead."
The Fours opened up the racing, and the Cardinal boat took third in a time of 7:41.7, 17 seconds back of California.
The II Eight was up next, battling down the 2,000-meter run and finishing second in 6:42.7, five seconds behind California.
The I Eight final featured a tight race throughout, as the three boats ended up being separated by just under five seconds. California would cross the line first in a time of 6:35.5, with Wisconsin next in 6:39.0 and Stanford third in 6:40.3.
In the novice eight petite final, Stanford took third, turning in a time of 7:12.2, three seconds back of Texas B.
Stanford returns to action next Saturday, April 21, hosting the Stanford Invitational at Redwood Shores.
