STANFORD, Calif. - Brad Lawson and Brian Cook combined for 21 kills to lead Stanford to a men's volleyball sweep of Pacific on Tuesday, earning coach John Kosty his 100th victory.
Stanford controlled play from the outset on the way to a 25-15, 25-19, 25-18 victory over the Tigers that kept the Cardinal (16-6, 13-5) in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation race.
Kosty, in his sixth season, improved his career record to 100-68. He becomes the third coach in program history to reach the milestone, joining Ruben Nieves (179-92 from 1991-2001) and former U.S. national team coach Fred Sturm (153-157 from 1979-1990).
Tuesday's match was the first of a final regular-season homestretch of five matches to be played at Maples Pavilion. Stanford, which sits behind four teams with four losses each, matches Pacific with the most home matches remaining in the MPSF, with four each.
Lawson had 11 kills and five digs and three blocks, and Cook had 10 kills and four blocks for Stanford. Evan Barry, the national leader in assists per set, had 32 and set the Cardinal to a .350 hitting percentage.
Stanford beat its Northern California rival for the ninth consecutive time and plays twice more this week, meeting No. 8 Long Beach State on Friday and No. 12 Cal State Northridge on Saturday in 7 p.m. matches.
