STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford Women's Rowing alumna Elle Logan ('11) qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games over the weekend as she earned a silver medal with the U.S. women's pair (2-) at the Samsung World Rowing Cup series.

The pair of Logan and Erin Cafaro, both members of the U.S. Eight that captured gold at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, crossed the line in 7:01.79, just over a second back of the gold medal-winning time of 7:00.61 turned in by Great Britain's Helen Glover and Heather Stanning.

Logan and Cafaro overcame a slow start to pass fellow U.S. pair Caroline Lind and Taylor Ritzel, who took bronze in the event.

The top-four finish, however, qualified Logan and Cafaro for the London Games this summer. The pair has until May 30 to accept its spot on the U.S. Olympic Team. Should they decline, the event will be included in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials to be held June 11-14 in West Windsor, N.J.

"The race was pretty fast and it was hard under the weather conditions," Logan told USRowing after the event. "It was good to test our speed and pretty much exciting. I enjoyed it. It is not determined whether we are going to row in the eight in the Olympics."

Logan was a four-time CRCA All-American and a 2009 NCAA Champion while at Stanford from 2006-11.
