May 6, 2012

Box Score

CORVALLIS, Ore.-- Ryan Dunn's single popped out of the glove of a diving center fielder Jake Stewart's glove, and gave Oregon State (30-15, 11-10 Pac-12) a 5-4, tenth inning victory over No. 7-ranked Stanford (29-14, 11-10 Pac-12).

The series clinching loss went to Stephen Piscotty (2-2), who pitched a career-high 4.2 innings, loading the bases with two outs, before Dunn sent a drive into the center field gap. Stewart dove, and rolled, as the ball popped out to give OSU the series.

Piscotty also had four of the team's eight hits, as the Cardinal tied the game with two runs in the ninth.

Kenny Diekroeger sent an 0-2 pitch to right to tie it at 4-4. Toni Bryant (5-1) came on for his ninth save, but could not secure it as following a hit by pitch by reliever Matt Boyd, Bryant gave up a two singles in the ninth. An RBI groundout by pinch-hitter Dominic Jose cut the lead to 4-3.

OSU starter Dan Child went the first 7.0 innings for the Beavers, giving up two runs in the sixth, while scattering four hits and three walks. He also struck out five. He left with a 3-2 lead.

Child had given up just an infield single through the first five innings, before Piscotty came through with a two-out single to cut the Beaver lead to 3-1. Brian Ragira followed with an RBI single to trim the lead to 3-2.

A bunt single against Piscotty in the eighth had given the Beavers an insurance run, making it 4-2 for Boyd and Bryant in the ninth

Stanford starter Sahil Bloom gave up OSU's first three runs, over the first two innings, all with two outs. After two strikeouts to start his first career start, Bloom gave up a walk and two singles. In the second, after a double play ball, a hit by pitch followed by two hits gave OSU a 3-0 advantage and chased Bloom from the game.

A.J Vanegas pitched 3.1 scoreless innings to bridge the gap between Bloom and Piscotty, in the sixth.
