Fiesta Bowl vs. Oklahoma State, January 2, 2011
It was just the sixth overtime game in Stanford history (win in 2011 v. USC, loss in 2005 v. UCLA, win in 2000 v. Cal, loss in 1998 at Arizona State, win v. Oregon in 1996).
Andrew Luck finishes career: 82 passing TD's, 22 interceptions, 713-1064 (27-31) passing, 9,430 (347) passing yards, 10,633 (590) total offense, and a 31-7 career record. Luck went over 300 yards passing for the ninth time in his career.
The 53-yard strike to Montgomery from Luck in the first quarter (7-0) was his fifth longest of the season. The score also broke the 2010 school record for points (524) as Stanford entered the game with 523, finishing with a school-record 561 (38-31).
All-Time Bowl Record now 10-12-1 having participated in a bowl in three-straight years (1-2).
Stepfan Taylor set a new career-high for rushing, breaking his previous mark of 153 at Arizona this year. He rushed for over 100 yards for the sixth time this year and 13th in his career. He has rushed for over 95 yards nine times this year. It is also a new Stanford bowl record, breaking the 152 by Bobby Grayson v. Columbia in 1934 Rose Bowl.
Ty Montgomery established a new career-high in receiving, passing his 87 yards at USC this year in the third quarter. It was his first 100-yard game of his career.
Stanford scored first in 24 of its last 27 games, outscoring opponents 88-28 in the first stanza. It was the first time this season OSU was held scoreless in the first quarter this season. It was the ninth first quarter shutout of the year.
Stanford is now 8-3 against the last 11 ranked teams and 3-2 in 2011.
Zach Ertz was the 20th touchdown pass by a tight end this season.
Terrence Brown had his first career interception in the first quarter.
Jeremy Stewart likes rushing in BCS bowls. He had a career-high 99 yards in the 2010 Orange Bowl. This year he had 65 yards in the Fiesta Bowl.
Stanford finished the season 67-of-69 in the Red Zone (4-of-5 tonight). Both stops were on missed field goals by Williamson (v. Cal for 33 yards after 35 in Fiesta Bowl).
Former Indian great Ernie Nevers had his number retired by the then-Chicago Cardinals football team and his No. 11 banner was above the Stanford sidelines.
On the sidelines tonight were three former NFL players now in the NFL: Seahawks Richard Sherman and Doug Baldwin and Cardinal Jim Dray, who each played at the same stadium yesterday in their respective NFL game.
In other OSU-Stanford matchups this academic year, the women's soccer team eliminated the Cowgirls in the NCAA's Elite Eight, while the men's basketball team won in the preseason NIT over OSU in December.
