Cardinal Finishes 16th In Trek for Danmark Trophy

Sept. 30, 2012

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Stanford sailing finished 16th at the Danmark Trophy hosted by the United States Coast Guard Academy this past weekend. The Cardinal totaled 229 points to finish 16th among the 20-team field.

Brown won the event for the first time since 1992 with 119 points.

Kevin Laube and Helena Scutt represented the Cardinal in the A-Division, racking up 83 points to finish 11th. The B-Division featured Michael Dahl and Rebecca King, as the duo placed 20th with 146 points.

The 70th anniversary of the Danmark Trophy began Saturday on the Thames River with challenging conditions for the sailors. The weather mark was voluntarily moved many times by competitors, helping to keep the mark set boat busy.

Sunday brought similar conditions with the breeze coming out of the northeast. The divisions switched fleets to begin the day as the ebb started shortly after racing began and increased rapidly.

Stanford now looks ahead to competing at next week's Hobart and William Smith Invitational (Oct. 6-7) in Geneva, N.Y., Match Race Area Eliminations (Oct. 6-7) in Vallejo, Calif., and the Moody Trophy in Wakefield, R.I.
