Freshmen Third at Nickerson Trophy, ICSA Singlehanded Championship Next on Slate

Oct. 31, 2012

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford finished third last weekend at the Nickerson Trophy and now looks ahead to the ICSA Singlehanded Championship (Nov. 2-4) held in Long Beach, Calif.

The match race at last week's Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference was a non-regatta. The team could only complete one flight, leaving a potential national berth left to be determined by resume.

The U.S. Coast Guard Academy played host to the Nickerson Trophy in New London, Conn. The event is regarded as the unofficial freshmen championship.

Boston College (54) won the intersectional regatta with Roger Williams (115) taking second. Stanford (120) was third as its A-Division squad posted 65 points and the B-Division posted 55 points.

Axel Sly, Samantha Steele and Noelle Herring competed in the A-Division with Yuki Yoshiyasu and Michelle Catania seeing action in the B-Division.
