COLUMBUS, Ohio - A pair of McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion records were broken Friday by Stanford on day one of the Ohio State Invitational. Both Maddy Schaefer and the 400 medley relay squad did the deed as the Cardinal women's swimming team sits in second place among the nine-team field.
"Today was a really good day of racing," Stanford head coach Greg Meehan said. "We took advantage of the opportunity to make changes from our morning swims to be better tonight. I really liked seeing our freshmen race. In particular, Julia Anderson, Allison Brown and Sarah Haase stood out with great race performances.
"We have the opportunity to get back at it tomorrow and the team is looking forward to it."
With 215 points, Stanford trails only Florida (264) in the standings. The three-day invite resumes Saturday with live results available at GoStanford.com
Schaefer, Julia Ama, Maya DiRado and Andi Murez teamed to go 1:30.82 in the 200 free relay for a third-place finish.
Anderson (4:43.32) was fourth in the 500 free and DiRado (1:56.19) took second in the 200 individual medley.
Schaefer blew by the field in the 50 free with a pool-record 22.18 for first. Murez (22.63) was fourth.
The win propelled Stanford to a win in the 400 medley relay to end the evening. Schaefer, Katie Olsen, DiRado and Murez rallied to set another pool record in 3:33.73.
