CHERRY HILL, N.J. - Stanford Lightweight Rowing advanced both of its boats to the IRA Grand Finals Friday on the Cooper River, as the I Eight attempts to capture its third straight national title.
The second-ranked I Eight will row for the IRA title Saturday morning at 8 a.m. PT, while the Four will go for its own IRA title at 5:10 a.m. PT.
The I Eight got its second title defense off to a strong start Friday, topping its qualifying heat over Dad Vail champion Bucknell, Princeton and MIT. The Cardinal crossed the line in 7:42.575, nearly 13.5 seconds ahead of Bucknell.
Saturday, the Cardinal I Eight will face off against Bucknell, Wisconsin, Radcliffe (Harvard), Georgetown and Princeton in the Grand Final.
The Four advanced to its Grand Final with a qualifying heat of its own, defeating Radcliffe (Harvard) and Princeton. The Cardinal crossed the line in 8:53.732, 31 seconds ahead of Radcliffe.
The Four will now take on Radcliffe, Wisconsin, SUNY Buffalo, Georgetown and Princeton in Saturday's Grand Final.
