Baumbach, Silver Collect Wins at Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Stanford wrestlers Bret Baumbach and Evan Silver picked up wins for the Cardinal, despite the team falling 32-6 to ninth-ranked Oregon State, Saturday, in Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Ore. The Cardinal drops to 4-12 overall and 0-2 in the Pac-12, while the Beavers move to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

The dual started at 125 pounds, where Silver put the Cardinal on top 3-0. After no score in the first period, Silver took a 1-0 lead over Oregon State's Joey Palmer in the second. The redshirt freshman tallied four more points in the third to seal the 5-2 decision.

The win gave Silver his 20th of the season, leading all Stanford wrestlers. He is also 12-4 in duals this season, totaling 44 team points.

The Beavers, boasting five ranked wrestlers, won eight of the 10 bouts Saturday. The Cardinal forfeited at 141 pounds.

Baumbach posted a 10-5 decision against Alex Elder at 165 pounds to capture his sixth straight win of the year. He recorded an early takedown and two back points in the first for a 4-0 advantage. He led 8-1 early in the third period and held on for the victory. He is now 17-8 overall and 12-4 in duals.

Stanford continues Pac-12 competition next weekend as it plays host to Cal Poly on Sunday, Jan. 27. The Cardinal and Mustangs are set to meet at 2 p.m. PT in Burnham Pavilion.
