Wrestling Drops 29-7 Decision at Boise State

BOISE, Id. -The Cardinal wrestling team was defeated 29-7 at No. 17 Boise State, Sunday, at Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Id. Stanford drops to 5-14 overall and 1-3 in the Pac-12, while the Broncos improve to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

Stanford came out strong, capturing wins in the first two bouts. However, Boise State would go on to win the final eight bouts to secure their sixth dual-meet win in a row.

Stanford redshirt freshman Evan Silverscored the first points of the day for the Cardinal with a 5-1 decision over Rami Haddadin at 125 pounds. He recorded takedowns in the first and third periods, and an escape to start the third in the win. Silver, who has won five consecutive matches, is now 23-10 overall and 15-4 in duals this season.

At 133 pounds, Stanford sophomore Alex Manleyposted his first win of the season with a 9-1 major decision over Landon Hartley. He led 4-1 going into the third period, where he tallied an escape, a takedown and earned another point for a technical violation on Hartley. With riding time in his favor, Manley secured the major decision.

At 165 pounds, Stanford junior Bret Baumbachhad his eight-match winning streak snapped as he fell in overtime to Holden Packard, 4-2.

Stanford returns to The Farm next weekend to play host to San Francisco State on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 3:30 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion. The Cardinal will then continue Pac-12 action on the road at CSU Bakersfield on Sunday, Feb. 10.
