No. 1 Stanford Posts 15-4 Win At No. 13 UC Davis

Feb. 9, 2013

STANFORD, Calif. - Behind hat tricks from senior Melissa Seidemann and freshman Maggie Steffens, top-ranked Stanford women's water polo cruised to a 15-4 victory at No. 13 UC Davis Saturday.

The win boosts the Cardinal's season-opening winning streak to nine games heading into a two-week hiatus. The Cardinal returns to action Feb. 23-24 at the UCI Invitational in Irvine.

Along with the hat tricks from Seidemann and Steffens, Stanford got a pair of goals apiece from Kaley Dodson, Alexis Lee, Kaitlyn Lo and Lexie Ross.

In the cage, sophomore Emily Dorst and freshman Gabby Stone combined for five saves over a half of action apiece.

Steffens scored the first two of her three goals on the day in the first period as the Cardinal opened up a 3-0 lead in the opening eight minutes of action. UC Davis would come to life in the second frame, netting three goals but the Stanford offense stayed hot, answering with four of its own to give the Cardinal a 7-3 lead at the game's halfway point.

Jessica Dunn scored three times for UC Davis Saturday, including a pair of power-play goals in the second period. Elsie Fullerton added the remaining goal.

Stanford's defense, behind the goalie play of Dorst and Stone, continued clamping down on the Aggie attack, allowing just one goal over the remaining 16 minutes. The Cardinal scored twice in the third period to extend its lead to 9-3 then dealt the decisive blow with a six-goal fourth frame.
