Stanford Shuts Out Pacific, 2-0

STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 18/19 Stanford softball team shut out Pacific 2-0, Sunday, on the final day of the Stanford Louisville Slugger Classic. The Cardinal improves to 22-5 overall, while the Tigers dropped to 14-11.

Senior pitcher Teagan Gerhart notched her third shutout of the season to improve to 11-3 overall. She allowed just three hits and issued one walk, while fanning six Tiger batters. Pacific's Nikki Armagost took the loss, falling to 8-3 on the year.

Offensively, senior Sarah Hassman was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Cardinal. Junior Corey Hanewich tallied an RBI, a stolen base and scored a run for Stanford, while freshman designated player Kayla Bonstrom was 2-for-3. First baseman Erin Ashby, catcher Jessica Plaza and third baseman Hanna Winter also registered base-hits.

The Cardinal scored its first run of the game in the bottom of the second as Hassman's single up the middle scored Hanewich, who reached on a fielder's choice, from second.

Stanford also scored a run in the bottom of the third inning. Plaza singled to right field and was replaced by pinch runner Alyssa Lombardo. After consecutive singles by Ashby and Bonstrom moved Lombardo to third, a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Hanewich brought her home.

Stanford will have a 12-day break for finals before opening up Pac-12 Conference play with a three-game series at Oregon, March 23-25. The Cardinal will makes its first appearance on the Pac-12 Networks against the Ducks on Saturday, March 24 at 3 p.m.
