Stanford Fifth at NCAA Championships After Day One

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Stanford fencing team had a strong first day of competition and is currently fifth after the first three rounds of competition at the NCAA Championships.

Only the men competed Thursday, as the women's competition takes place on Saturday and Sunday.

Stanford accumulated 45 points and was led by men's foil, which accumulated 19 of the team's point total. Freshman Alexander Massialas is fourth in men's foil after tallying 12 victories, while junior Turner Caldwell is in 12th with seven wins.

Paul Riviere both earned seven decisions in men's epee and currently sit in 16th and 17th place, respectively.

With a total of six victories apiece, Cameron Lindsay and Daniel Wolfson concluded the day in the 20th and 21st positions.

Rounds 4-5 will begin Friday, March 22 at 7:30 a.m. (PT) with the semifinals and finals taking place at approximately 11:30 a.m. (PT). The semifinals and finals will be televised live on ESPN3.com.
